A new trend has caught the fancy of
Bollywood filmmakers, i.e. having a rock song in their movie.
Rock songs, which were limited to a limited followers of international and Indian bands have found a wider audience now, thanks to
Bollywood movies. A greater number of rock artistes are finding a platform to showcase their talent through the Indian film scene. It is also seen as a good way to connect with the urban youth of the country since, for them, listening to rock music is the 'cool' thing to do. Here are some of a few Bollywood songs which belong to the rock genre.
1. Bandeh: Black Friday - The song, composed by the band Indian Ocean, has been one of the most well received song in the country. The song was not an attempt at being commercially viable and was pure music from the soul which is, perhaps, why it saw such unprecedented success from all quarters. Critics and music-lovers alike, consider this to be one of the best rock-songs in Bollywood and that's why it gets the top spot.
2. Sadda Haq: Rockstar - Ranbir Kapoor is the latest Bollywood rockstar who is getting the nation sing to his tunes. Imtiaz Ali's directorial combines the musical genius of A.R. Rahman and Mohit Chauhan to create a clean album that celebrates music of different genres. Sadda Haq is the rock anthem of the movie that already has people chanting all over. Mohit Chauhan explores the depths of his vocals with this song and we can safely say that it has hit the right chord with the audience.
3. Bhag DK Bose: Delhi Belly - The title of the song itself was such a huge controversy that the song instantly went viral. Going beyond the words, the song was laced with a heavy rock base. The video too is pictured on the three main protagonists as rockstars playing in a grunge ambience.Even hardcore core rock music lovers considered the song to be "half-decent" which is, indeed, a great compliment for a Bollywood song.
4. Rock On: Rock On - 'Rock On' was the first movie that dealt with the journey of a rock band. Not only was the movie critically acclaimed but the music of the film was a runaway hit. The blend of the music with the plot was seamless which made the whole experience of watching the movie a special one. The title track represents the whole concept of the film while making for a great rock song too.
5. Alvida: Life in a Metro - The album of the movie 'Life in a Metro' was a memorable one and had a number of songs which became extremely popular with the masses. The song 'Alvida' in particular was a massive hit, especially amongst the youth. The song was released in two versions, sung by KK and Bangladeshi artiste, James respectively. In fact, James was the pioneer of psychedelic rock in Bangladesh and his version of the song acquired an almost cult status.
